Ingredients
2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 tablespoon milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups powdered sugar
1–2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
½ teaspoon peppermint extract
few drops pink food coloring
¼ cup crushed candy canes
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper
2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt
3. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy
4. Add egg, milk, and vanilla extract and mix well
5. Gradually combine dry ingredients with wet ingredients
6. Chill the dough for 30–60 minutes
7. Roll into balls, place on tray, and flatten slightly
8. Bake for 9–11 minutes and cool completely
9. Prepare frosting by beating butter, sugar, cream, and peppermint extract
10. Add pink food coloring and mix
11. Spread frosting over cookies
12. Top with crushed candy canes and let set
