Ingredients

4 cups small pretzel twists

1 cup unsalted butter

1 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon coarse sea salt

1/2 cup chocolate chips optional

1/2 cup chopped nuts optional

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 250°F (120°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread pretzels evenly.

2. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.

3. Add brown sugar and stir until combined and bubbling.

4. Let mixture boil for 3–5 minutes until thickened.

5. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and baking soda.

6. Pour toffee mixture over pretzels and gently toss to coat.

7. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring every 10–15 minutes.

8. Remove from oven and sprinkle with coarse sea salt and optional toppings.

9. Let cool completely until coating hardens.

10. Break apart and serve or store.

Notes

Use fresh baking soda to ensure the toffee foams properly and coats evenly.

Stirring during baking is essential to prevent clumping and ensure even coating.

Allow full cooling time so the toffee hardens into a crisp texture.
