Ingredients
1 cup whole milk
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 large egg
1/4 cup melted butter
3 1/2 cups bread flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing after baking)
Instructions
1. Warm the milk to about 100-110°F and stir in the sugar and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
2. In a large bowl, mix the yeast mixture with the egg, melted butter, and salt.
3. Gradually add the bread flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
4. Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
5. Transfer to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours.
6. Punch down the dough, divide into 15–20 portions, and shape into rolls.
7. Place the rolls on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let rise again for 30–45 minutes.
8. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
9. Bake for 15–18 minutes or until golden brown on top.
10. Brush the tops with melted butter while warm and serve.
Notes
If using all-purpose flour, expect slightly less chewiness but still great flavor.
Letting the rolls rise fully during both proofing stages is key for light, airy texture.
Rolls can be frozen and reheated for a quick homemade bread option any day.
