Golden, glazed, and packed with bold flavor, this Sweet & Savory Brown Sugar Garlic Chicken combines the richness of caramelized brown sugar with the sharpness of garlic and soy for a sticky-sweet, umami-rich meal that’s fast, easy, and unforgettable.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 to 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (light or dark, packed)
  • 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional)
  • Fresh parsley or chopped green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Trim and pat the chicken pieces dry.
  2. In a bowl, mix together brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic, vinegar, and pepper.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear half of the chicken for 3–4 minutes per side until golden. Remove and repeat with remaining oil and chicken.
  4. Return all chicken to the pan and pour sauce over.
  5. Reduce heat to medium and simmer for 5–7 minutes, stirring until sauce thickens.
  6. Stir in butter if using.
