Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
3 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pinch salt
Food coloring (optional)
Instructions
1. Place room temperature butter in a large mixing bowl. Beat on medium-high speed for 2–3 minutes until light and creamy.
2. Reduce speed to low and add powdered sugar gradually, one cup at a time, mixing until fully incorporated.
3. Add vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon of cream. Beat until combined. Add more cream if needed.
4. Check consistency. Add more cream if too thick, or more powdered sugar if too thin.
5. If desired, add food coloring and mix until fully blended.
6. Frost cooled sugar cookies using a spatula or piping bag. Let set for a few hours to form a slight crust.
Notes
For best texture, make sure your butter is soft but not melted.
Sift powdered sugar to avoid lumps and achieve a silky finish.
Gel food coloring is preferred as it maintains the frosting’s structure.
