Need a quick and comforting dinner idea? This Savoury Mince is a rich and hearty dish made with ground beef, vegetables, and a flavorful sauce. Perfect for busy weeknights, it’s ready in under 40 minutes and works great with mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread. Whether you’re after a healthy snack, easy dinner, or make-ahead lunch, this recipe ticks all the boxes. It’s freezer-friendly, meal-prep approved, and one of the best go-to comfort food ideas out there.

Ingredients

1 tbsp olive oil

1 medium onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

500 g ground beef

2 medium carrots, diced

1/2 cup green peas

1 stalk celery, diced (optional)

1 1/2 cups beef stock

2 tbsp tomato paste

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp flour or cornstarch (optional)

Salt, to taste

Pepper, to taste

1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté diced onion until translucent.

2. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

3. Add ground beef and break it up with a spatula. Cook until browned and liquid has evaporated.

4. Stir in carrots, peas, and celery (if using), and cook for 3–5 minutes until slightly tender.

5. Mix in tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine.

6. Pour in beef stock and bring to a simmer. Let the mixture cook for 10–15 minutes.

7. If needed, mix flour or cornstarch with a little water and stir in to thicken.

8. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for another 5 minutes.

9. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve hot.

Notes

This recipe freezes well and is perfect for batch cooking.

For extra depth, add a splash of balsamic vinegar or soy sauce during simmering.

Don’t skip browning the mince — it’s key to flavor development.
