Description
A rich and hearty dish made with seasoned beef patties simmered in a velvety mushroom-onion gravy. Perfectly paired with mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables, this classic comfort meal is ideal for cozy weeknights or family dinners.
Ingredients
For the Salisbury Steaks:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 preferred)
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter (for searing)
For the Mushroom Gravy:
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 1/2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp fresh thyme (or 1/4 tsp dried)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh chopped parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire, Dijon, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently.
- Form into 4 oval patties and chill for 10–15 minutes.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high. Sear patties 3–4 minutes per side, then remove.
- In the same pan, melt butter. Add onions, cook 3–4 mins. Add mushrooms, sauté 5 mins.
- Sprinkle flour, cook 1–2 mins. Slowly whisk in broth. Add Worcestershire and thyme.
- Return patties to pan, spoon gravy over, cover and simmer 10–15 mins.
- Garnish with parsley and serve hot.
