Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb ground pork
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 bay leaf
- 12 oz dried spaghetti
- Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and sauté until soft, about 5–7 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Add ground beef and pork; cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
- Stir in tomato paste and cook for 2–3 minutes.
- Pour in red wine, scraping up any browned bits.
- Add crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper, oregano, basil, sugar, and bay leaf.
- Bring to a simmer, reduce heat, and cook uncovered for 45–90 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- While the sauce simmers, cook spaghetti in salted water until al dente. Drain.
- Remove bay leaf from sauce.
- Toss cooked spaghetti with some of the sauce.
- Serve with extra sauce on top and grated Parmesan cheese.
