Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon sugar

½ cup plain yogurt

⅓ cup warm water or milk

1 tablespoon oil

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

3 cloves garlic, finely minced

1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro or parsley

Pinch salt

Instructions

1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.

2. Add yogurt, warm water (or milk), and oil into the dry mix. Stir to combine.

3. Knead the dough for 5–7 minutes until soft and smooth.

4. Cover and rest the dough for 30 minutes at room temperature.

5. Meanwhile, melt butter in a small pan. Add garlic and a pinch of salt. Sauté for 1–2 minutes. Stir in chopped cilantro or parsley, then remove from heat.

6. Divide dough into 6–8 equal balls.

7. Roll each dough ball into a ¼-inch thick oval or round on a lightly floured surface.

8. Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat.

9. Cook naan one at a time: 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown with bubbles.

10. Immediately brush cooked naan with garlic butter.

11. Stack naan and cover with a clean towel to keep warm.

12. Serve fresh and enjoy!

Notes

For a vegan version, use plant-based yogurt and vegan butter.

Don’t skip the resting time—it makes the naan softer and easier to roll.

A hot skillet is crucial for perfect bubbling and charring.
