Rich, saucy, and perfectly seasoned, this easy recipe is ideal for busy weeknights, potlucks, or anytime you need a satisfying crowd-pleaser. Made with ground beef, peppers, onions, and a bold tomato-based sauce, it’s a classic comfort food that’s freezer-friendly and versatile. Whether you’re planning quick dinner ideas or prepping a healthy snack to enjoy later, this easy recipe delivers big flavor with minimal effort.

Ingredients

2 pounds lean ground beef (85% lean preferred)

1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped

1 green bell pepper, finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce

1/2 cup ketchup

1/4 cup tomato paste

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon yellow mustard

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon chili powder

1/2 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Burger buns for serving

Optional toppings: shredded cheese, pickles, jalapeños

Instructions

1. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it apart until fully cooked. Drain excess grease.

2. Add chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for 3–5 minutes until softened, then stir in garlic for another minute.

3. Transfer beef, onions, and peppers into the crock pot. Add tomato sauce, ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire, and spices. Stir until well combined.

4. Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours or high for 3–4 hours. Stir occasionally.

5. If desired, uncover for the last 30–45 minutes to thicken the sauce.

6. Taste and adjust seasoning before serving. Add extra brown sugar, mustard, or chili powder if needed.

7. Spoon onto toasted buns and serve with your favorite toppings.

Notes

For a richer flavor, try a blend of ground beef and turkey or pork.

Let the sauce reduce by removing the lid toward the end if it’s too watery.

Toasting the buns adds texture and prevents sogginess.
