Craving a timeless dessert that’s simple to make but full of flavor? This Classic Buttermilk Pie is the Southern custard pie you never knew you needed. It’s creamy, tangy, slightly sweet, and wrapped in a buttery crust that melts in your mouth. Whether you’re hunting for easy dinner desserts, quick breakfast ideas, or just food ideas that always satisfy, this pie fits the bill. A perfect pick among easy recipes for holidays, weekend baking, or any day you’re after comfort on a plate.

Ingredients

1 cup buttermilk

0.5 cup unsalted butter, melted

1.75 cups granulated sugar

3 large eggs

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

0.25 teaspoon salt

1 9-inch unbaked deep-dish pie crust

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. Roll out the pie crust and press into a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate. Flute the edges and blind bake for 8–10 minutes.

3. In a large bowl, whisk together buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.

4. Sift in the flour, sugar, and salt. Whisk until lump-free and glossy.

5. Pour the mixture into the prepared pie shell and tap the dish lightly to remove air bubbles.

6. Bake for 45–55 minutes until golden on top and the center slightly jiggles.

7. Let the pie cool completely for 1 hour, then chill in the fridge before slicing.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for a smooth, creamy custard.

Let the pie cool completely before chilling or slicing to avoid a runny center.

If the crust browns too fast, tent the edges with foil halfway through baking.
