Chicken Sausage Broccoli and Orzo Skillet

Description

A wholesome, one-pan meal that combines seared chicken sausage, tender orzo, and vibrant broccoli in a savory garlic and onion-infused broth. Balanced, customizable, and perfect for busy weeknights.


Ingredients

  • 12 oz chicken sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced chicken sausage and sear until browned on both sides, about 6–8 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add onion and cook for 2–3 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  5. Add orzo and toast for 2 minutes, stirring frequently.
  6. Pour in chicken broth and bring to a simmer.
  7. Let orzo cook uncovered for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Add broccoli on top, cover, and steam for 3–4 minutes.
  9. Return sausage to the skillet and stir to combine.
  10. Cook together for another 2 minutes until everything is heated through.
  11. Season with salt and pepper. Top with Parmesan if desired.
