Ingredients
2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough (8 oz each)
16 oz cream cheese, softened (2 packages)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon lemon zest
3 tablespoons fruit preserves (raspberry, strawberry, or blueberry)
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
2. Unroll one can of crescent roll dough and press it evenly into the bottom of the prepared dish, pinching seams closed.
3. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, 1 cup sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
4. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the bottom dough layer using a spatula.
5. If using fruit preserves, gently spread a thin layer on top of the cream cheese filling.
6. Unroll the second can of crescent dough and lay it over the filling, sealing seams for a smooth top.
7. Pour or brush the melted butter evenly over the top dough layer.
8. In a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup sugar with cinnamon and sprinkle over the buttered surface.
9. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until golden and slightly puffed.
10. Allow to cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing into squares or rectangles.
Notes
Make sure your cream cheese is fully softened for a silky filling—cold cream cheese leads to lumps.
For a fruitier twist, add a thin layer of jam or preserves over the cream cheese mixture before topping with the second dough layer.
Let the rolls cool before slicing so the filling can set properly and give you clean, bakery-worthy squares.
