Description

This Char Siu Chicken features juicy chicken thighs marinated in a flavorful blend of hoisin sauce, honey, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and Chinese five spice, then roasted until beautifully caramelized. Perfect for pairing with rice, noodles, or fresh greens.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Chinese five spice powder
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Shaoxing wine (or dry sherry)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Red food coloring (optional, a few drops)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, five spice, garlic, ginger, Shaoxing wine, sesame oil, and food coloring if using.
  2. Place chicken thighs in a resealable bag or dish and pour marinade over them. Coat well. Marinate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  3. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top.
  4. Arrange marinated chicken on the rack. Reserve leftover marinade for basting.
  5. Roast for 20 minutes. Baste with remaining marinade and cook for another 10-15 minutes, until caramelized and fully cooked.
  6. Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
