- ½ cup brown sugar, packed

- 1 ½ cups unsweetened applesauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or raisins (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- Cream butter and sugars: In a separate bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs and applesauce: Mix in eggs one at a time, then stir in applesauce and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Fold in nuts or raisins if using.
