Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons red food coloring
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup white chocolate chips (for bear muzzles)
1/4 cup mini chocolate chips (for eyes and nose)
1 tablespoon heart-shaped sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
3. Add in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract and red food coloring.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
5. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
6. Scoop dough into small balls for the bear heads. Roll even smaller balls for the ears and attach them to the top of each head.
7. Gently press mini chocolate chips for eyes and nose, and add white chocolate chips for the muzzle. Decorate with heart-shaped sprinkles for cheeks.
8. Place shaped cookies on the baking sheet, leaving space in between.
9. Bake for 9–11 minutes or until edges are set. Do not overbake.
10. Let cool completely before piping additional melted white chocolate if desired for more facial detail.
Notes
Chill dough if it feels too soft to handle. It makes shaping the bears easier.
